Chris Harada's involvement in theater began in the late 1980’s in Grass Valley, CA when he was cast as “Sakini” in Teahouse of the August Moon. In the early 1990’s Chris became Vice President of Community Players of Nevada County and went on to co-found CATS (Community Asian Theater of the Sierra) where he was Vice President and cast in their first production, Yellow Fever. In 1995, Chris and his wife Cindy Melby Harada founded their own company, Chris Harada Productions and formed a teen group Teen Street Players. Both groups specialized in musicals and comedies for 10 years, earning several Elly awards and nominations. In 2013 Chris was given the opportunity to direct Lend Me A Tenor for Placer Community Theater which rekindled his passion for directing. In 2014 Chris directed the beloved musical Fiddler on the Roof for Placer Community Theater in the newly renovated State Theater in Auburn CA, which became one of the groups most successful productions to date. He returned in 2017 to direct Steel Magnolias . Currently, Chris and his wife Cindy are members of Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance (SARTA) and are Elly judges in the musical category for the local version of the Tony Awards. They have been judges for 12 years. SARTA covers an area of 90 square miles and theaters within that area participate in the Elly Awards competition. Chris is a well known professional photographer by trade and theater is his passion.
